If you asked me where to spend a slow Knoxville afternoon, I'd tell you to grab your little one, pack a water bottle (although if you forget, they have boxed water available), put on comfortable shoes, and head to the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum.

It's the kind of place that reminds you not everything has to be rushed. The paths wind through gardens, historic stone walls, and shady pockets that feel untouched by time. What many visitors may not realize is that the property sits on the former Howell Nurseries, a piece of Knoxville history that once helped shape gardens throughout the region.

Today, the gardens offer a peaceful place to wander, explore, and slow down for a while. Whether you're pushing a stroller, enjoying a quiet walk, or simply looking for a break from the busyness of everyday life, it's easy to lose track of time among the flowers and winding paths.

My favorite part of the gardens was stumbling upon what felt like a secret world tucked away from the rest of Knoxville.

The Secret Garden was beautiful, full of winding paths and blooming flowers, but what I remember most happened a little later. It was one of those hot Tennessee afternoons where the sun seems to settle on your shoulders. As we continued walking, we found ourselves entering the bamboo forest.

Almost immediately, everything changed.

The temperature felt cooler, the sounds of the city disappeared, and the towering bamboo created a peaceful canopy overhead. As we slowly made our way down the path, Levi drifted off to sleep in his wrap. Maybe it was the shade, maybe it was the gentle rustling of the bamboo against the breeze, or maybe it was simply how calm the space felt.

For a few minutes, the world seemed to quiet down. As a stay-at-home mom, those peaceful moments can be rare, and that little bamboo grove ended up being my favorite part of the entire garden.
