There is something special about experiencing your hometown through your child's eyes. Ordinary places suddenly feel magical, and familiar traditions take on new meaning.

As a stay-at-home mom in Knoxville, I've started creating a bucket list for my baby's first year which is filled with local adventures, family traditions, and East Tennessee experiences I can't wait to share with him. From exploring Market Square to hiking the Smokies where his dad and I went on our first date, these are the memories we're hoping to make before he turns one.

Find a Church Community

Living in the Bible Belt, church is a big part of the community in Knoxville. One of my goals for me and my family is to find a church community with young families that have babies around our babies age. This also gives us an opportunity to go to the different Catholic churches in our area.

Go to the Knoxville History Museum

I always drive pat this and think about how cool it would be to stop in. Yet, I have not found a time to do it! It is important to know the area you live in and the Knoxville History Museum will help us to learn all about where we live.

See some of the Civil War Trail

If you've ever driven through Knoxville, I am sure you've seen some of these signs. Similar to the History Museum I have always wanted to go to some of these stops just to read about where we are living.

Go to the Knoxville Zoo

This is a MUST in our babies first year. He loves our cat and I am so excited to experience the Knoxville Zoo with our little too!

Take a Mommy Workout Class

Being a stay-at-home Mom sometimes the day to day you can get wrapped up at home, for part of my babies first year I want to at least try one Mommy Workout Class with my little. And now that he enjoys being in his troller there really isn't an excuse anymore!

Donate to Once Upon A Child

I love this charity and organization and one of my goals is to donate some of the things we don't always use to Once Upon A Child, there are so many ways you can give back to the surrounding Knoxville community and I believe that this is one of them.

Thrift A Handmade Quilt

We were gifted soo many handmade quilts and blankets for our baby and I love the Southern Quilt Making tradition. One of my thrift goals is to thrift a quilt for our whole family to use.

Go On A Family Picnic

The hope!! Is to eat outside as a family (hopefully on a thrifted blanket) and just enjoy the outdoors. Truthfully the location doesn't matter but Lakeshore Park could be a possibility!

Thrift A Vintage Vols Shirt/Jacket

This goes without saying, I'm always trying to grow my Volunteer collection but I hope to find a jacket this year!

Go to the Knoxville Botanical Gardens

I've seen pictures and created it in my mind of what it would be like, I just hope to smell the flowers, maybe buy a plant and see a different part of Knoxville.

Go to IJAMS Nature Center

I want to experience so much nature with my little because seeing him look at God's creation is one of my favorite things. I've seen so many photos of Ijams and want to experience it for myself.

Swim in the Meads Quarry

My husband has talked about Meads Quarry and I hope sometime this summer we can have a family day and go enjoy a quick dip!

Learn How to Make Southern Sweet Tea

Yes! I've tasted some southern sweet tea and its so good. I hope to master the craft.

Go to My Local Library

I just want to experience this and meet some new people with their littles. Our local libraries can be a great way to connect and do something new. I really hope to get there sometime this year.

Meet Smokey!

A must when football season comes around. We are in East Tennessee, in our sons first year he just has to meet Smokey!

See a Show at the Tennessee Theatre

If you've ever driven downtown, you've seen the Tennessee Theatre. I would love to experience it at some point!

Go to the Lakeside Rodeo

I just think that this would be so much fun to experience.

Hike the Smokies

This was my husband and I's first date and I would love to take our son. That is so very important for me.

Of course, no bucket list is ever truly finished.

As our family continues to grow alongside our love for Knoxville, I'm sure new adventures, traditions, and hidden gems will find their way onto this list. Some experiences may become annual favorites, while others might be spontaneous discoveries made on an ordinary afternoon.

For now, this collection serves as a starting point and a quick guide to embracing all that East Tennessee has to offer during these fleeting early years. Because while babies don't stay little for long, the memories we make along the way have a way of lasting far beyond childhood.

So consider this a living list, one that will evolve with every season, every milestone, and every new Knoxville adventure. Here's to making memories, exploring our community, and finding joy in the simple moments that make a place feel like home.
