Why not a Facebook group or a Substack?
A Facebook group is a good place to talk and a Substack is a good place to write. My Local Press gives people covering a town the tools to run a paper. Every town here shares the hosting, subscriptions, advertising, print-ready pages and the apps. That keeps each town from having to build its own and helps us keep the cost of local news down. A town's feed is sorted by place and by what's new, with journalism leading it. Everyone writing here is real and vouched for, and what we promote across the network is the work readers respect, whether or not they agree with it.
Why not on your own?
You could run your own site and newsletter. On your own, though, your ceiling is your town: the pizza parlor, the car dealership, your aunt. That's real support, and in a big market it might be enough. In a small town it usually isn't. What no journalist can do alone is walk into a national advertiser's office with numbers, and a network can. We're taking the first step now, with journalists and publications here building their own readerships through subscriptions, direct support and local ads.
A newspaper, a radio station or a TV desk can bring its masthead here and publish under its own name, on its own domain. If you got here from a publication's own site, the "My Local Press" link in its menu and the "Part of the My Local Press Network" credit at the bottom brought you through a one-time welcome page that names the publication you came from.
