Construction Underway on New Marriott Convention Center Hotel in Downtown Cincinnati
Construction crews have broken ground on the long-anticipated Marriott Convention Center Hotel in downtown Cincinnati, marking a major milestone for the city's growing hospitality and events sector.
The project, developed in partnership with the City of Cincinnati and Hamilton County officials, is designed to complement the Duke Energy Convention Center and give the region a much-needed boost in large-scale meeting and conference capacity. City leaders say the hotel has been a top priority for attracting bigger conventions and trade shows that have historically bypassed Cincinnati due to a lack of adjacent hotel rooms.
Marriott International will operate the property, while the development team includes local and national construction firms overseeing site work, structural framing, and infrastructure upgrades in the surrounding blocks. Officials say the project has already required coordination on utility relocation, road access, and pedestrian safety measures near the convention center campus.
When complete, the hotel is expected to feature several hundred guest rooms, ballroom and meeting space directly connected to the convention center, and street-level retail and dining options aimed at revitalizing that stretch of downtown.
City officials and business leaders have pointed to the hotel as a key piece of downtown Cincinnati's broader redevelopment push, which has included nearby investments in housing, entertainment, and public space improvements. Supporters say the project will create both construction jobs in the near term and permanent hospitality jobs once the hotel opens.
A firm opening date has not yet been announced, but city officials say they expect the hotel to be substantially complete within the next few years, pending continued progress on the current construction timeline. Local officials plan to provide updates as major milestones are reached, including topping-out ceremonies and interior buildout phases.
