An Intriguing Season for Indian Land

Indian Land, SC--The start of the 2026 football represents a first for the Indian Land Warriors. Indian Land dropped in classification for the first time. It won its appealed to the South Carolina High School League, dropping from 5A to 4A.

Indian Land won its appeal despite and because of its growth. In just ten years Indian Land grew from a 2A school to 5A. If the Warriors remained in 5A their enrollment would rank thirty-ninth out of forty schools, based on last year's enrollment of 1,561 students. The Indian Land community's population more than doubled in the past ten years to over 47,000 this year.

Indian Land competed well at the 5A level, making it to the Upper State Championship in baseball two years ago, and finishing 11-2 and making the 5A Division II Upper State Championship game in football this past season. The Warriors lost to the eventual state champions, the Northwestern Trojans.

Travel, due to the growth, became an issue for athletes, both in distance and time. Indian Land High School begins its school day at 9:00 AM and ends it 4:10 PM. The South Carolina High School League voted 11-4 to allow the Warriors to drop back to 4A. Indian Land is now in a seven-team region, with the longest trips being to Clover and York.

This season Indian Land begins the season ranked #6 in the statewide 4A poll. The defending 4A state champion South Pointe Stallions present the biggest obstacle to Indian Land winning the region and making a run back to the Upper State Championship.

Head Coach Adam Hastings team will be led by Junior quarterback Matt Kucia. Kucia threw for 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns and just four interceptions. The Warriors need his leadership on a team with just 11 seniors and 10 juniors.

Other seniors Indian Land looks to help lead the way: running back and strong safety Christian Davis, linebacker Jackson Conner, linebacker and tight end Ty Fallecker, running back and linebacker Mason Green. Guards Devin Dillinger and Ryan Buck will lead the offensive line. Defensive Ends Adam Foster and Liam Stephen help anchor the defensive line.

Replacing Swiss army knife Sequel Patterson, who saw time at running back, wide receiver threw passes, and started in the secondary, will be a challenge. He also punted at the end of the season and how the Warriors replace all he did will be an intriguing story.

Indian Land kicks off the regular season at home on August 21 against the Harding University Rams from Charlotte, North Carolina. Other games to pay close attention to include weeks two and three home games against the Trojans and Butler Bulldogs. The Warriors travel to South Pointe on October 8, which could decide Region 3-4A.
