Bandits Attack Kogi School, Kill Vice Principal, Six-Year-Old Pupil and One Other
Armed bandits have attacked a school in Kogi State, north-central Nigeria, leaving the vice principal, a six-year-old pupil, and another victim dead in a brutal assault that has sparked widespread outrage and fear across the community.
According to local reports, the attackers stormed the school premises in the early hours of the incident, firing sporadically and causing panic among students, teachers, and nearby residents. The invasion reportedly led to the abduction of some individuals, while others sustained injuries during the chaos.

Security sources said the attackers operated in large numbers and overpowered initial resistance before escaping into nearby forests. Efforts are currently underway by security agencies to track down the perpetrators and rescue any possible abducted victims.
The attack has further heightened concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of north-central Kogi State, where armed groups and bandit networks have increasingly targeted rural communities, schools, and highways.
Local authorities have condemned the incident, describing it as a “barbaric act” and assuring residents that additional security deployments are being mobilized to prevent further attacks in the area.
Parents and community members have expressed grief and anger over the killing of innocent children and school staff, calling for urgent government intervention to strengthen protection around educational institutions.
Security analysts warn that continued attacks on schools pose a serious threat to education in vulnerable regions, potentially forcing closures and disrupting academic activities for thousands of students.
As search-and-rescue operations continue, officials say updates will be provided once more verified information becomes available about the attackers and any missing persons.
