The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has revealed that prominent activist Aisha Yesufu was initially offered a House of Representatives ticket by the party but declined the opportunity.

According to Dickson, the offer was made jointly by him and the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as part of efforts to bring credible and influential voices into elective politics.

Speaking on the development, Dickson said the party believed Yesufu’s activism, leadership qualities, and commitment to good governance would have made her a strong representative of the people in the National Assembly. However, she reportedly turned down the offer, preferring to continue her advocacy and civic engagement outside elective office.

The revelation has sparked discussions among political observers, many of whom have long speculated about the possibility of Yesufu transitioning from activism into partisan politics. Over the years, she has become one of Nigeria’s most outspoken advocates for accountability, democratic reforms, and citizen participation in governance.

While declining the House of Representatives ticket, Yesufu has remained active in national discourse, frequently commenting on issues relating to governance, elections, transparency, and social justice.

Dickson emphasized that the NDC remains open to working with individuals who share its vision for national development, whether they choose to serve through elective positions or through advocacy and public engagement.

The disclosure highlights the growing efforts by political parties to attract respected civil society figures into governance, as calls for greater citizen participation and political reforms continue across the country.
