Waymo's Driverless Cars Officially Hit Miami Streets
The future of transportation has arrived in the Magic City. Waymo launched its first autonomous vehicles on Miami streets Tuesday, marking a significant milestone for South Florida commuters and tech enthusiasts alike.
The San Francisco-based company announced that Miami is part of an ambitious expansion plan that will bring driverless car service to four additional cities—Orlando, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio—in the coming weeks.
While the vehicles are now testing on local roads, Miami residents eager to hail a robotaxi will need to wait a bit longer. Waymo plans to open its service to the general public in January 2026.
The rollout positions Miami as one of the nation's leading cities in autonomous vehicle adoption, joining San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles where Waymo already operates.
