Construction crews continue work at the intersection of West Avenue and Lincoln Road in Miami Beach this week, part of an ambitious effort to upgrade the city's century-old storm drainage system and combat the effects of sea level rise.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is leading the comprehensive roadway and drainage improvement project along State Road 907/Alton Road, stretching from Michigan Avenue to south of 43rd Street (Ed Sullivan Drive) in Miami-Dade County.

What's Being Built:

The project includes significant infrastructure upgrades designed to protect the community from flooding while improving transportation options:

• Raising the roadway elevation to reduce flood risk

• Installing two new pump stations with upgraded drainage inlets

• Widening northbound lanes near the golf course to add a two-way bicycle facility and new sidewalk

• Adding guardrails, barrier walls, and improved lighting

• Upgrading pedestrian signals, crosswalks, and signage

• Repaving and restriping the entire corridor

Expect temporary sidewalk and lane closures throughout construction. However, FDOT confirms that access to all adjacent neighborhoods and businesses will remain open during the work.
