Good evening, West Chester.

As Monday draws to a close, our evening roundup takes us from downtown’s commercial streets to the neighborhoods around Everhart Park, across the university campus and back to the municipal building. Here are the stories we’re following on October 5.

A clear, cool night is ahead, with temperatures expected to fall to around 45°F and northwest winds of 5 to 10 mph. Tuesday should bring sunshine, with afternoon temperatures reaching the lower 60s.

At the pump, drivers have a little relief. Regular gasoline averaged $4.48 per gallon across Pennsylvania today, down from about $4.54 a week earlier. Prices at individual West Chester stations may differ from that statewide average.

Over at West Chester University, the week begins with recognition for Golden Rams goalkeeper Grace Keen. On Monday, she was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Fifteen saves. Two victories. The award recognizes a strong week in goal.

Keen made six saves in Wednesday’s 3–1 victory over Shepherd, then added nine more in Saturday’s 3–0 shutout against Bloomsburg.

Saturday’s result also carried personal significance: her 50th career collegiate victory. She is now four wins behind Hilary Smart’s 54, the second-highest total in program history. West Chester stands at 8–1–1 overall.

From the playing fields, our attention turns to the people telling the community’s stories. Today, The Quad published a profile of Cara Corridoni, the voice behind Hello, West Chester.

Originally from Indiana and a journalism graduate, Corridoni made her home in the Borough near Everhart Park. Her reporting follows the everyday places and decisions that shape local life: businesses, schools, residential developments and municipal government.

Hello, West Chester combines a weekly news roundup with original reporting, including coverage of restaurant inspections, education and housing. Corridoni describes work that involves research, interviews and revisions to bring readers stories beyond the headlines.

That connection also reaches the university community. In November 2024, her publication announced a partnership with WCU’s Cottrell Entrepreneurship Center offering students a complimentary one-year subscription.

Our final stop in tonight’s roundup is the municipal building on East Gay Street. A Planning Commission work session was scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

At the time of this edition, MLP does not yet have a meeting report confirming what was discussed or what conclusions were reached. We will return to the story in a future edition.

A university athlete recognized, a local journalist in the spotlight and a municipal meeting awaiting follow-up: those are the stories in tonight’s West Chester roundup.

Good evening, West Chester. This is MyLocalPress.
