Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has said he felt betrayed by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, while praising former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for recognising his value and political contributions.

Speaking during a recent interview, Okonkwo reflected on his political journey and his decision to part ways with Obi and the Labour Party. He alleged that despite his commitment to the party and its 2023 presidential campaign, he was left disappointed by developments within the movement.

According to Okonkwo, he believed he made significant sacrifices in support of Obi's presidential ambition, but felt those efforts were not appreciated. He said he was particularly disappointed by what he described as a lack of decisive leadership in addressing internal challenges that emerged after the 2023 general elections.

Contrasting his experience, the former Labour Party chieftain said Atiku recognised his experience and political relevance. He stated that the former Vice President treated him with respect and demonstrated confidence in his ability to contribute to national politics.

Okonkwo maintained that his political decisions are guided by principles rather than personal interests, adding that he remains committed to supporting initiatives and leaders he believes can strengthen Nigeria's democracy and improve governance.

His remarks are expected to fuel further political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially as political realignments continue across the country's major parties and opposition blocs.

As of the time of this report, neither Peter Obi nor his media team had publicly responded to Okonkwo's latest comments. Likewise, Atiku Abubakar had not issued any statement regarding the actor-politician's remarks.
