OSU Entomologists Launch "Healthy Home Habitats" Initiative in Partnership with Columbus-Area Health Departments
Researchers in the Entomology Department at The Ohio State University are excited to announce the launch of a new community-focused project: Healthy Home Habitats (HHH).
Healthy Home Habitats is a collaborative initiative between OSU entomology researchers and local health departments across the Columbus area. The project aims to better understand the relationship between household pests, insects, and the health and well-being of residents in central Ohio communities.

By partnering directly with local health departments, the HHH team hopes to bring scientific expertise into homes and neighborhoods where it can make a real difference — helping families identify, manage, and prevent pest-related health risks in their living environments.
"We're thrilled to be working alongside local health departments to bring this research directly to the communities that need it most," said one of the project's lead researchers. "Healthy Home Habitats is about more than insects — it's about the people who live alongside them."
Adrienne Smith, one of the program's participants, spoke to the importance of the initiative and what it means for everyday residents. "This program is so important because a lot of families don't realize how much the environment inside their home can affect their health," Smith said. "The researchers come in, they listen, and they help you understand what's going on. If you want to get involved, just reach out to your local health department — they'll connect you with the team and walk you through everything."
The initiative is part of a broader USDA-supported effort to promote healthier, safer living conditions for residents throughout the region.
Residents interested in learning more about the Healthy Home Habitats project or getting involved are encouraged to reach out to The Ohio State University's Entomology Department or their local Columbus-area health department for more information.
