Maurice Gibb Memorial Park Reopens with Music-Themed Playground and Climate-Resilient Upgrades
After two years of extensive renovations, the Maurice Gibb Memorial Park in Miami Beach's Sunset Harbour neighborhood is ready to welcome visitors back with a fresh new look that honors its musical namesake while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.
The beloved waterfront park celebrated its grand reopening on April 3, 2025, unveiling a transformed space that blends playful tributes to the legendary Bee Gees with forward-thinking environmental features.

A Playground That Rocks

The crown jewel of the renovation is "You Should Be Dancing" — a music-themed playground featuring oversized instruments including a guitar, keyboard, and drum kit. The whimsical name pays homage to Maurice Gibb and his brothers Barry and Robin, who operated their recording studio in the Sunset Harbour neighborhood during the 1970s.

Building for the Future

Beyond the fun, the $7.8 million project tackles serious environmental concerns. A new "living shoreline" featuring native mangrove trees and a raised seawall will help protect the park against rising sea levels. Crews also remediated contaminated soil and installed improved drainage systems.

Something for Everyone

Residents will find plenty of new amenities to enjoy, including a dedicated dog park, fishing piers with bay overlooks, shaded seating areas, a new pavilion, upgraded walking paths, and expanded green spaces. New public restrooms round out the improvements.
Funding came from $6.6 million through the 2018 Miami Beach General Obligation Bond, supplemented by a $1.2 million grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District.
