A quarter-century of movie memories on Miami Beach will come to an end this September when the landmark Regal Cinemas at 1120 Lincoln Rd. Mall closes its doors for good.

The Miami Beach planning board has approved an ambitious replacement: the Superhuman Museum, a new cultural venue featuring 17 exhibits that local entrepreneur Steve Berke says will anchor Lincoln Road's revival and redefine the area's cultural landscape.

The 18-screen theater opened on June 16, 1999, with 2,799 seats, quickly becoming a destination for beachgoers and residents alike. Its closure follows parent company Cineworld's September 2022 bankruptcy filing—part of a broader struggle facing movie theater chains nationwide. Regal remains the country's second-largest cinema chain behind AMC Theaters.

While longtime patrons may mourn the loss of their neighborhood cinema, Berke's vision for the Superhuman Museum signals a new chapter for one of Lincoln Road's most prominent addresses. Details about the museum's exhibits and opening timeline have not yet been announced.
