Pen display tablets are a favorite tool of mine to create cartoons and comics.

As an artist I first learned how to draw using pencil and paper. To speed up my workflow I shifted to sketching, inking and coloring using a pen display tablet.

These devices have a built-in screen. Draw or paint directly on the screen using a pen stylus combined with a graphics program.

First connect it to a computer with USB (Universal serial bus) cord. Install the manufactures driver software to change settings and calibrate pen pressure. The tablet can mirror content on the computer screen or function as a second monitor.

Content creators, hobbyists, and professional artists can benefit from a more intuitive experience. They’re available in multiple screen sizes and configurations.

Who is Wacom?

Wacom is the global leader in the pen display and tablet market for creative users. Founded July 12, 1983, and headquartered in Saitama, Japan. The company’s name stems from combining the Japanese word “Wa,” meaning “harmony,” and “Com” for computer, demonstrating Wacom’s mission: creative harmony between users and their technology.

Movink 13

The Movink 13 is one of Wacom’s newest products. The screen uses Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) technology. Each pixel emits its own light, eliminating the need for a backlight. Allowing for bold colors to display on the screen. The tablet is light weight with a slim profile to fit in most backpacks.

The touch screen enables users to use finger gestures. Zoom, scroll, rotate and more. Activate on-screen short key menus to assign digital brushes, erasers and frequently used tools. I frequently use the magic wand tool on Clip Studio Paint EX for coloring. Instead of using a mouse assign the magic wand to a shortcut menu for muscle memory.

Menus have different styles. Express keys resemble a keyboard. A radial menu is a circle shaped menu. All can be customized with colors and commands. Use shortcut menus instead of visually searching through art software menus.

Wacom Pro Pen 3

Movink 13 uses the new Wacom Pro Pen 3. It’s a slim stylus with customizable weight, grip thickness, pen buttons and center of balance, find the configuration that suits your style. The nib can be replaced with felt or plastic. Felt adds more resistance when sketching to simulate drawing on paper. On the side of the pen are three buttons. Use these to assign even more keyboard shortcuts.

Wacom pen displays work with most digital arts programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Clip Studio Paint and more. They have other tablets and products. Learn more at www.Wacom.com
