Miami Beach Launches Free Water Taxi Service Connecting Beach to Downtown
More than a year after the pilot program debuted, the City of Miami Beach has officially launched its water taxi service as a permanent, free transportation option starting Tuesday, Jan. 20.
The new service provides commuters and visitors with a scenic alternative for crossing Biscayne Bay, connecting Miami Beach's Sunset Harbour neighborhood directly to downtown Miami.

Where Does the Water Taxi Go?
The free water taxi operates between two strategic locations:
• Maurice Gibb Memorial Park at 1790 Purdy Avenue in the Sunset Harbour neighborhood of Miami Beach
• Venetian Marina and Yacht Club at 1635 North Bayshore Drive on the Miami side of Biscayne Bay
Each 40-foot vessel can accommodate up to 55 passengers per trip.
Service Hours and Frequency
Water taxis run approximately every 60 minutes on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with increased frequency during evening rush hours—departing every 30 minutes from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Weekend service is not currently available, though city officials have indicated they may expand operations in the future.

Trip Duration
Each crossing takes approximately 20 minutes, offering passengers waterfront views while avoiding mainland traffic congestion.
Connecting to Other Transit Options
The water taxi integrates seamlessly with Miami-Dade County's broader transportation network, making it easy for riders to continue their journey on either side of the bay.
"Enjoy seamless connections and stress-free parking with easy access to multiple transportation options on both sides of the bay — hop on the South Beach Trolley or Freebee in Miami Beach or connect at OMNI Station in Miami," the city explains on its website.
A CitiBike station is conveniently located at the northwest corner of Purdy Avenue and 18th Street for those looking to continue by bicycle.
Personal bicycles and scooters may be brought aboard at the captain's discretion, provided there is sufficient space available.
The permanent water taxi service represents Miami Beach's continued investment in sustainable, multimodal transportation solutions for residents and visitors alike.
