It was a thrilling day of group stage action at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, headlined by a Lionel Messi masterclass that sent Argentina fans into a frenzy.
Argentina 3 – 0 Algeria (Group J)
Lionel Messi was the story of the day, bagging all three goals in Argentina's dominant victory over Algeria. The all-time great showed no signs of slowing down, converting two clinical finishes in the first half before sealing his hat-trick with a curling effort late in the second half. Argentina sit atop Group J and look every bit like a title contender.
France 3 – 1 Senegal (Group G)
Les Bleus put on a commanding performance against a spirited Senegal side. France's attacking trio caused problems throughout, and despite a late consolation goal from Senegal, the result was never truly in doubt. France continue to assert themselves as one of the tournament favorites.
Norway 4 – 1 Iraq (Group I)
Norway delivered a statement performance, running out comfortable 4–1 winners over Iraq in Group I. The Scandinavians' clinical finishing and organized defensive shape proved too much for the Iraqi side to handle.
