Iran has announced that its late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will be laid to rest on July 9 following a series of funeral ceremonies scheduled to take place across the country.

According to Iranian state media, the funeral proceedings will begin in Tehran on July 4 and continue with additional ceremonies in the holy city of Qom on July 7 before concluding with Khamenei's burial in his hometown of Mashhad on July 9.

Khamenei, who led the Islamic Republic for more than three decades, reportedly died during the early stages of the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States earlier this year. His death marked one of the most significant political developments in the Middle East in recent decades.

The delayed burial has drawn international attention, as Islamic tradition typically calls for burial within a short period after death. Iranian authorities, however, cited wartime circumstances, security concerns, and the need to organize large-scale national mourning events as reasons for the postponement.

Officials expect millions of mourners from across Iran and abroad to participate in the funeral events. Reports indicate that extensive preparations are underway in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad to accommodate visitors and foreign delegations expected to attend the ceremonies.

Khamenei served as Iran's Supreme Leader from 1989 until his death and was a central figure in shaping the country's domestic and foreign policies. His leadership spanned major regional conflicts, nuclear negotiations, and periods of significant political and economic change within Iran.

His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has since assumed the position of Supreme Leader, ushering in a new chapter in the history of the Islamic Republic. Observers say the funeral will not only be a moment of national mourning but also a symbolic demonstration of continuity for Iran's political and religious establishment.

As preparations continue, the world will be watching closely as Iran bids farewell to one of the most influential and controversial leaders in its modern history.
