After 30 Years on the Run, Texas Mom Arrested in Mexico for 1996 Murder of Toddler

A Texas mother, Maria Narez, has been taken into custody in Mexico following a nearly 30-year manhunt. Narez, now 48, was wanted in connection with the 1996 death of her 3-year-old daughter, Kasandra White.

According to investigations, the incident occurred in November 1996 inside the family’s Fort Worth home. Authorities allege that Narez physically abused the toddler, shaking and beating her before fatally throwing the child against a wall. Although a grand jury indicted Narez in 1997, she managed to disappear shortly after a judge reduced her bond to $25,000. Her capture marks the end of a decades-long pursuit by law enforcement to bring closure to this tragic cold case.
