Boise Police Rescue Animals Trapped in Hot U-Haul Truck

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Boise Police officers were dispatched on July 23 to a report of a dog locked in the back of a U-Haul moving truck around 6:05 p.m.

Police report the outside temperature at that time was around 98 degrees. Responding officers made contact with the caller and inspected the truck. One officer could hear heavy panting from within the back of the moving truck and determined the conditions were too dangerous, ultimately deciding to force open the back of the truck.

Inside, the officer found two animal crates, one containing a cat, and the other a large dog. Temperatures inside a vehicle on a 98-degree day will rise to 115F in just 10 minutes, and will soar to over 130F after only 30 minutes.

Thankfully, the attentive caller heard the dog suffering and called police. Thanks to the quick actions of Officer Yankovich, both animals are now recovering nicely at the Idaho Humane Society. Two suspects were arrested at the scene and have been charged with two counts of carrying animals cruelly.
