Another book done! Aztec Odyssey: Historical Action Adventure (Nick LaBounty Series Book 1) Review

As anyone who has been reading my articles know, I am a devoted fan of history, so it is no surprise that I picked up Aztec Odyssey: Historical Action Adventure (Nick LaBounty Series Book 1) on Amazon Kindle Unlimited.

This book is the telling of two stories that intermingle as you start the second part. Up until that part of the book, you are cast back and forth between 1521 and "modern day" (the book doesn't actually tell when it is set other than "present day"), giving the reader a look at a trip of a group of Aztecs, Spanish, and a few other indigenous tribesmen from the Aztec capital to the final destination (which is also kept a secret until later in the book). The modern day part of the story is recounting the tale of Nick LeBounty, youngest son of Al LeBounty, long time history researcher and recently deceased (his death has happened just before the "present day" part of the story of happened), going on a journey to find out what happened to his father.

As I stated, the book jumps back and forth between the two stories until Nick meets the love interest in the book, and from then on we are on a breakneck journey which takes us from the Southwest United States to Mexico and back, with the villain of the story being interested midway through the second part of the book.

The first part of the book was a little hard to read, with the constant jumping back and forth every other chapter, but once the book decides where it was headed, and having us follow Nick.

I am not going to spoil how the book ends, but needless to say it is a worthwhile conclusion that you do not see coming. After the story is tied up, there is an epilogue that brings us back to the past, this time in 1578 with the person that started the book off.

I was honestly cold about the book during the first part of it, not even knowing if I would complete the story because it was hard to keep up with where in time you were, but I am actually one to not stop a book [I honestly cannot say that I have never not finished a book, mainly because I am a completist], so I kept at it and the final payoff made the jumping back and forth during the first part a little more manageable. In fact, I had already downloaded the "free" book that Jay LaBarge offers at the end of this story (it is the only book in the series that is not included in Kindle Unlimited, with Jay charging a paltry 99 cents for the 57 page Nick LeBounty's First Discovery).

But Nick LeBounty's First Discovery is not the next book that will be covered on this page. As you know from reading my other articles, I alternate between fiction and non-fiction/biography, keeping my mind fresh and ready to receive what comes next. My next book is The History of Buddhism by Captivating History. I am including links to both of the books in the media portion of the article.

I would recommend Aztec Odyssey: Historical Action Adventure (Nick LaBounty Series Book 1) with the caveat that was mentioned earlier: that the story doesn't settle into a set time frame until part two, but I would give this book 3 1/2 stars out of five.
