"By Any Means" REVIEW
In the 1960's, when civil rights leaders were brutally murdered in Jackson Mississippi, for what they were fighting for, it took more than just local law enforcement to bring justice. It's time to call in both the FBI and the mob, by any means necessary.
Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul Mateen II have a unique way of stepping into these historical roles and not being afraid to kick some butt to do so. They both exceed expectations as Walhberg takes on the mob role, showing Mateen new definition to the term by any means. Equally Mateen, has a unique way of portraying one of the only Black FBI agents including the struggles of upholding the law in the south as a black man. Ultimately when it comes down to it, they both inevitably need each other in order to bring justice to those who need it.
By Any Means is a historical crime drama that will have audiences craving for the truth which ultimately is there in the script. That being said, due to the nature of the events involved, the film though inspired by true events, might not be fully accurate as far as every character on screen. The heart of the message is still there as it is an important one for everyone to see and remember so that we may fully appreciate history and not be doomed to repeat it.
Additionally, the film also stars actors portraying powerful figures including, Giancarlo Esposito, Nicole Beharie, David Strathairn, Josh Lucas and LisaGay Hamilton, all of whom do an exceptional job next to Mateen and Wahlberg to bring this historical drama to the big screen.
By Any Means came out in theaters Labor day weekend September 4th and is currently playing in one near you. See it for history revealed on the big screen.
