New Autism Identification Program Coming to Jasper County
- The Lowcountry Autism Foundation and Jasper County Sheriff’s Office are bringing a free autism identification program to Ridgeland later this month.
- The September 26 event will give families information about the program while helping local first responders better recognize and support people with autism.
A new program designed to help first responders better support people with autism is coming to Jasper County.
The Lowcountry Autism Foundation and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office are partnering to launch the LAF AID (Autism Identification) Program in the county.
A free community event is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Jasper County Farmers Market in Ridgeland.
The program provides autism-awareness and response training for first responders. Families can also receive access to a personalized identification system designed to help first responders recognize and assist someone with autism who may become lost, overwhelmed or need help in an emergency.
The identification system is intended to provide important information to responders while remaining discreet.
Families attending the event will be able to learn more about the program and sign up for LAF AID.
Food will also be available, with the Pinckney Foundation and Low Country Crew providing food and Kona Ice scheduled to be on-site.
