Driver Arrested After Using 'Wade Mode' to Drive Cybertruck Into Lake
A local man was arrested after allegedly driving his Tesla Cybertruck into a lake, reportedly believing the y built-in "Wade Mode" feature would allow it to navigate through the water.
The driver, identified as Jimmy Jack McDaniel, now faces multiple charges, including water safety violations and failure to have a valid boat registration.
Authorities say McDaniel engaged the Cybertruck's Wade Mode — a feature designed to help the electric vehicle cross shallow water or flooded roads at low speeds — before driving the truck into the lake. The feature, however, is not intended for open-water navigation, and the vehicle quickly became submerged.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the local fire department coordinated with a wrecker service to recover the Cybertruck from the lake. It is unclear whether McDaniel was injured in the incident or whether any passengers were present at the time.
McDaniel's case is expected to be reviewed by local authorities. No court date has been announced.
