Atlanta has become the first city in the Southeast to introduce a new type of game that combines soccer and golf – footgolf – at Candler Park. The new nine-hole course will be operated by the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation and will share a portion of the existing golf course, with the exception of some modifications needed to accommodate footgolf.

Footgolf is a game where the players try to get a soccer ball into oversized cups with as few kicks as possible. This sport is becoming more popular as it's easy for everyone to play.

The course will be used to give residents another low-cost recreational activity and promote being outside and involved in the community, city officials say. The course will be open to Atlantans and visitors only during certain times of the day during the week, providing a chance to experience one of the city's public parks in a new way.

The expansion is the latest sign of Atlanta's growing efforts to provide more recreation opportunities in anticipation of more tourism and community activities throughout the city.
