Lindstrom City Council presented the preliminary city’s budget for 2027

Lindstrom city Council presented the preliminary city’s budget for 2027 waiting for the completion of itself and the finalized numbers of the county.

The city administrator, Dan Undem, introduced the initial budgeting in a 150 page document with a property tax increase of 4.99% and the introduction of a separate capital levy.

The increases come shorter than to 5%, but mayor Judy Chartrand thinks it should be ideally at 4.5% following significant increases over the previous three years.

Undem also explained that the introduction of a separate capital levy for 2027 will allow the city to clearly communicate to residents the distinction between operational costs and capital investment.

He highlighted that despite the 4.99% increase in property taxes the initial document is not the final budget.

The initial estimates showed an $8.3 million budget with a capital levy approximately of 1 million dollars.

Council member David Waldoch inquired if the 8.3 million tax capacity mentioned in the meeting as not accurate as the county is yet to finalize these numbers and the possible reduction of the percentage if the council of Lindstrom decides to do so before December 2026.

The preliminary budgets are not finalized numbers for 2027.

Lindstrom City Council met Sept. 16 for a regular meeting. Member Krueger attended remotely.

The next Lindstrom city council meeting will take place on Wednesday Oct. 21, 2026.
