The Governor of Lucky Aiyedatiwa has declared that Ondo State is fully prepared for the establishment of state police, stating that the necessary structures and security frameworks are already in place.

Speaking on the growing national conversation around state policing, Governor Aiyedatiwa said Ondo has developed the capacity required to support a state-controlled police force, emphasizing that the move would strengthen security and improve response to local challenges.

According to the governor, the state has invested significantly in security infrastructure, logistics, and community-based initiatives that can seamlessly integrate into a state police system once approved at the national level.

He noted that state policing would enable security agencies to better understand local terrain, culture, and security dynamics, leading to more effective crime prevention and intelligence gathering.

The governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that Ondo State remains ready to play a leading role should the Federal Government and the National Assembly approve the creation of state police across Nigeria.

The debate over state police has gained momentum in recent years, with many governors and security experts arguing that decentralizing policing could help address insecurity more effectively across the country. However, concerns remain over funding, oversight, and the potential for political interference in state-controlled security agencies.
