Wiretapping Allegation: El-Rufai to File No-Case Submission as DSS Closes Case
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is expected to file a no-case submission following the conclusion of the Department of State Services (DSS) presentation in an ongoing legal matter involving allegations of wiretapping.
Court sources indicate that the DSS has closed its case after presenting evidence and calling witnesses in connection with the allegations, thereby paving the way for the defense team to respond formally through a no-case submission.

El-Rufai’s legal team is reportedly preparing to argue that the prosecution has failed to establish a prima facie case requiring him to enter a defense, insisting that the evidence presented does not meet the legal threshold for continued prosecution.
The case, which has attracted significant public attention, centers on claims of unlawful interception of communications during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State. The allegations have been strongly contested by El-Rufai, who has consistently maintained his innocence.
With the DSS concluding its presentation, the court is now expected to hear arguments from the defense before ruling on whether the former governor will be required to open his defense or whether the case will be dismissed at this stage.

Legal analysts say a no-case submission, if upheld, could result in the dismissal of the charges without proceeding to full trial. However, if the court rejects the submission, the case will continue with the defendant opening his defense.
The matter has drawn wide public interest given El-Rufai’s prominence in Nigerian politics and his previous role as a key figure in national governance and policy reforms.
Further proceedings are expected in the coming weeks as the court considers the defense application.
