Jasper County Airport Runway Expansion Gets Private Support

Jasper County is moving forward with plans to extend the runway at Ridgeland-Claude Dean Airport.
The project has received financial support from Congaree Golf Club as the county works toward expanding the airport’s runway.
During an August County Council meeting, Interim County Administrator Jim Iwanicki said Congaree had agreed to help with costs associated with the runway extension.
Iwanicki said the county wanted to find a private benefactor so Jasper County would not have to spend county funds directly on the project.
The airport, located about one mile northwest of Ridgeland, is publicly owned by Jasper County. Its current runway is 4,200 feet long and 75 feet wide, according to current FAA information.
County officials have been studying the airport’s future runway needs as part of a larger effort to improve the facility.
For Jasper County, the runway project could help strengthen the airport’s role in the community and support future economic development.
