TMNT Artists Talk About Drawing Turtle Power

At SWCBS last Sunday, the panel room was taken over by Turtlemania as artists Andy Kuhn, Ben Bates, Raymond Gay, Aaron Campbell and colorist Pez Lopez reflected not just on their time drawing the three-fingered, butt-kicking ninja teens, but on why everyone loves the heroes in a half shell.

They all have their own ideas about how the Turtles should look and be portrayed, and each has faced moments of difficulty along the way. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a hugely popular property with significant oversight, occasional misguided notes and complicated crossovers — and these artists have stories.
