Boise man accused of murder after self-claimed 'assisted suicide' appears in court
BOISE, Idaho — A man accused of murder who claims he was participating in an “assisted suicide” appeared in court on Friday morning.
36-year-old Brian Jones appeared at the Ada County Courthouse for a pre-trial conference on Friday, Oct. 2.
In November 2025, the Boise Police Department said it found a man dead inside a hotel room near Vista and Interstate 84.
As previously reported, Jones pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder by poison, torture, vengeance, extortion, or sadistic inclinations in March 2026.
Jones claimed he killed his friend, but that it was “assisted suicide,” and previously told police "his friend said he wanted to go.”
40-year-old Abel Garcia Jr. was pronounced dead within a hotel on the 2500 block of Sunrise Rim Road in Boise around 3 a.m. on Nov. 21, 2025, after lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.
Assisted suicide is not legal in the state of Idaho. A jury trial for Jones’ case is scheduled for Oct. 19. It is expected to last for five days.
