Jasper County Council is scheduled to consider a proposed temporary moratorium on certain data-related development at its September 21 meeting.
The proposed ordinance would temporarily pause the acceptance, review and action on applications involving data centers and data processing facilities.
It would also cover cryptocurrency mining operations and other uses associated with data processing facilities.
The proposal would apply to applications involving rezoning, special exceptions, special-use permits, building permits, site plans, plans of development and certain economic incentives.
The item is scheduled for a second reading and public hearing during the council’s regular session at 6 p.m.
The September 21 meeting will be held at the City of Hardeeville Council Chambers, 205 Main Street in Hardeeville.
Residents will have an opportunity to speak during the public hearing. Written comments for the hearing must be submitted by 1 p.m. Monday, September 21, according to the county’s amended agenda.
The proposed moratorium is still a matter before County Council; it has not been presented here as an adopted policy.
