Crews are continuing to battle the Big Grass Fire, which has grown to 304,237 acres and is 21% contained, near the Idaho-eastern Oregon border in Owyhee County, Idaho. Fire officials said the incident is managed under an “aggressive full-suppression strategy” to protect communities, structures, critical infrastructure, and natural and cultural resources. On Friday, USWFS Idaho-Great Basin reported that crews continued work from Thursday on the northeast perimeter west of Triangle Flat, using dozers, hand crews, and engines to build and improve containment lines with support from helicopters, including water-dropping helicopters and air retardant drops in steep and inaccessible areas. Officials added that Friday’s focus is on strengthening lines west of Triangle Flat and south of Flint Creek Road ahead of a dry cold front expected to bring stronger winds and low humidity; as containment is achieved, resources will shift to the southeast perimeter near the Owyhee River for line construction, while other perimeter areas have limited fire activity and are monitored. A community update meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the Owyhee County Museum & Library, 17085 Basey Street in Murphy. As of July 30, Level 3 “Go Now” evacuation orders were issued for areas including Triangle Reservoir, Pleasant Valley South Mountain, Pleasant Valley Road to the City of Triangle, City of Triangle to the Triangle Reservoir, Flint Creek Road, Juniper Mountain Road, West portion of Mud Flat Road, and Silver City, which is under Level 2 “SET”. Updates also said Silver City is not in immediate danger and the Level 2 Set order may be downgraded if conditions continue improving, with the RFPA and multiple agencies assisting.
