Drake Maye or Maye Not

New England Patriots Quarterback Drake Maye threw 3 interceptions in the second half, as the Seattle Seahawks take the 2026 NFL season opener against the New England Patriots 13-10 on Sept. 9.

Maye had the opportunity to drive his team downfield and attempt a game tying field goal from 27 yards, but instead, he threw a floating pass in the air, fading away from defensive pressure, into the corner of the endzone, where Seahawks defensive back Josh Jobe intercepted the ball.

Coming into the season, Maye has gotten plenty of praise for his ability to lead the Patriots to the Superbowl in just his second season. However, throwing 3 interceptions in the fourth quarter with the game on the line will have many Patriots fans questioning whether he may or may not be the quarterback that can replace Tom Brady’s shadow in New England.

Patriots star wide receiver A.J. Brown left the game late in the second quarter, and Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold left the game for the Seahawks as well.

The opportunity for the Patriots to take control of the game came on a Patriots 10-0 run in the second and third quarter where the Pats scored a touchdown and a field goal.

That was Maye’s opportunity to make an impact on the game, and he couldn’t seem to hold on to the momentum as Seattle continued to play great defense throughout the entire game.

The Patriots have the Pittsburgh Steelers at home next weekend and Seattle goes to Arizona to play the Cardinals.

Maye’s last 3 interceptions on the last 3 drives of the game were the first ever in Patriots' history.
