Food Delivery Robots Roll Through South Beach, Delighting Residents and Visitors Alike
MIAMI BEACH — The sidewalks of South Beach have some new regular visitors, and they're turning heads wherever they go.
Small, white autonomous delivery robots have become an increasingly common sight throughout Miami Beach, ferrying food orders from local restaurants to hungry customers on behalf of Uber Eats. The knee-high machines, equipped with six wheels and an insulated cargo compartment, navigate sidewalks, crosswalks, and curbs with surprising agility.

"My kids absolutely love them," said Carolina Martinez, a Miami Beach resident who spotted one of the robots while walking along Ocean Drive with her two children last weekend. "Every time we see one, they want to follow it and wave. It's become like a little neighborhood celebrity."
The robots, manufactured by Serve Robotics, use a combination of cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence to find their way to delivery destinations. They can carry meals from participating restaurants within a designated radius, traveling at a modest walking pace while carefully avoiding pedestrians, pets, and obstacles.
For tourists experiencing the technology for the first time, the robots provide an unexpected source of entertainment. Visitors have been observed taking photos and videos of the machines as they patiently wait at crosswalks for the signal to change before proceeding across the street.

"I had to do a double-take," laughed Thomas Chen, visiting from Ohio. "I've heard about these things, but seeing one just casually rolling down the sidewalk delivering someone's lunch — it feels like the future is actually here."
Local restaurant owners have embraced the technology as an additional delivery option that helps them reach more customers. The robots operate rain or shine, don't require tips, and provide a contactless delivery experience that many customers have come to appreciate.
Miami Beach joins a growing list of cities where autonomous delivery robots are becoming part of the urban landscape, offering a glimpse into the evolving future of food delivery while bringing a smile to nearly everyone they pass.
