Road Work on Dade Blvd Causes Traffic Tie-Ups at Bay Road Intersection
Drivers in Miami Beach are experiencing significant delays as ongoing road construction at the intersection of Dade Boulevard and Bay Road continues to snarl traffic throughout the area.
The construction project, which involves utility upgrades and roadway resurfacing, has narrowed travel lanes and forced periodic lane closures during peak commuting hours. Motorists heading eastbound on Dade Boulevard have reported backups stretching several blocks, with wait times at the intersection running up to 15 minutes during morning and evening rush hours.
"It's been a nightmare getting to work in the mornings," said one commuter who travels the corridor daily. "I've had to leave 20 minutes earlier just to make it on time."

City officials say the work is necessary to address aging infrastructure beneath the roadway, including water main replacements and stormwater drainage improvements — upgrades that are critical in a coastal city increasingly vulnerable to flooding and sea-level rise.
According to the Miami Beach Department of Public Works, the project is expected to be completed by late spring, with a projected finish date in early May — though officials caution that timeline could shift depending on weather conditions and any unforeseen underground utility complications.
In the meantime, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes where possible. Suggested detours include 17th Street to the north or Michigan Avenue to the west to avoid the most congested portions of the construction zone.
Residents with questions or concerns about the project can contact the Miami Beach Public Works Department at (305) 673-7080 or visit the city's website for project updates.
