World's Largest Coquí in Urban Art: "COQUÍ by NiNo" Earns Global Recognition

A monumental piece of Puerto Rican artistry is making waves on the world stage. "COQUÍ by NiNo," an immersive traveling sculpture created by Puerto Rican artist NiNo Alicea — known in the art world as "El NiNo" — has been nominated for the prestigious CODAworx TOP 100 Awards 2026, one of the most recognized honors in the field of commissioned art and design.

Standing 15 feet tall, 22 feet wide, and 25 feet deep, the sculpture holds the distinction of being the largest representation of the iconic coquí frog in the realm of urban and public art. But this is no ordinary monument — visitors are invited to step inside the structure itself, transforming the experience from passive observation into full artistic immersion.

The installation is a traveling work, with no permanent home. It has already graced some of the most celebrated public art stages in the country, including the legendary Burning Man festival in Black Rock City, Nevada, as well as public exhibitions in Pomona, California, and Reno, Nevada.

With its CODAworx nomination putting it in competition with top artistic works from around the globe, Alicea is actively seeking new venues and international stages to bring the piece to next. For a small frog that has long symbolized Puerto Rican pride and resilience, "COQUÍ by NiNo" is proving that its voice — much like the real coquí's — can be heard far beyond the island.
