Texas Tech Soccer Looks to Keep Unbeaten Streak Alive Against Arizona State

No. 14 Texas Tech women’s soccer returns to action Friday night when Arizona State visits John Walker Soccer Complex for a Big 12 matchup.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 2, in Lubbock.

Texas Tech enters the match 6-0-4 overall and 2-0-1 in Big 12 play, while Arizona State comes into the contest 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

The Red Raiders are riding a 15-match unbeaten streak, including an 8-0-7 record during that stretch.

That streak was extended Sunday when Texas Tech rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat then-No. 13 Colorado, 3-1.

Red Raiders Coming Off Statement Win

Colorado took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Texas Tech responded with three goals in the second half.

Raleigh Greason tied the match early in the second half before Taylor Zdrojewski put the Red Raiders ahead. A Colorado own goal later provided the final margin.

Goalkeeper Addie Todd also made a late penalty save to help preserve the victory.

The win moved Texas Tech into the national spotlight. The Red Raiders climbed to No. 14 in the iWSOC poll and No. 16 in the TopDrawerSoccer poll following the victory.

Zdrojewski Leading the Way

Zdrojewski remains one of the central figures in the Texas Tech attack.

The senior has scored seven goals this season, including the go-ahead goal against Colorado. She was also recently named to the 30-player midseason watchlist for the Mac Hermann Award, which recognizes the top player in NCAA women’s soccer.

Greason has also become an increasingly important contributor. Her goal against Colorado was her second of the season, with both coming in Big 12 play.

Arizona State Presents Another Big 12 Test

Arizona State arrives in Lubbock with a 7-2-2 record and a 2-1 conference mark.

Friday’s match will be the first time the Sun Devils have played Texas Tech in Lubbock.

Texas Tech has won the last two meetings between the programs, including a 1-0 victory at Arizona State in 2023.

The Red Raiders will also be looking to continue their recent success at John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech is 13-0-4 in its last 17 matches at home and has not lost a match played in Texas in its last 20 opportunities.

Another notable statistic is Texas Tech’s record when it scores multiple goals. Since the beginning of the 2022 season, the Red Raiders are 52-0-2 when scoring at least twice.

What to Watch

Friday’s matchup presents another opportunity for Texas Tech to build on its strong start to conference play.

The biggest questions will center on whether Tech can continue generating offensive production, how Arizona State handles the Red Raiders’ attack, and whether Todd and the Texas Tech defense can produce another strong performance against a quality conference opponent.

The match also closes Tech’s three-match homestand.

After Arizona State, the Red Raiders begin a three-match road stretch, starting Oct. 8 at Oklahoma State.
