Baltimore DSA Puts Spotlight on Cuba

From Baltimore Democratic Socialists of America:

While the U.S. government economically strangles and threatens war on Cuba, most people here know very little about the neighbor they’re told to hate. Rather than sinking into stereotypes, we're investigating for ourselves with the documentary CUBA AFTER CASTRO, featuring the first and only American interview with Cuba’s little-known Miguel Díaz-Canel. This film explores the island nation’s lesser-known history and turbulent present, in a revealing portrait of the man tasked with steering its future after Castro, and is essential viewing for anyone seeking to comprehend the real pressures shaping Cuba and the uncertain future of U.S.-Cuba relations.

The screening includes the showing of the short film MATARON A PEDRO.

MATARON A PEDRO is the untold story of Pedro Albizu Campos. In the 1930s, farmers turned to a young Black Harvard-educated lawyer to fight for them, despite a political machine in Washington determined to silence them. What happens next will forever alter the course of a colonized island.

The filmmakers, Abby Martin (Cuba After Castro) and Debbie Perez (Mataron a Pedro), will attend virtually for a live Q&A!

The film screening takes place Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 6-9 p.m. at the SNF Parkway Theatre, 5 W. North Ave., Baltimore, Md., 21201. Tickets are available at https://gbdsa.org/s/CubaAfterCastro2026.
