Red Lobster is bringing back its beloved Endless Shrimp promotion — the same deal that once helped push the struggling seafood chain into bankruptcy. But restaurant officials say this time around, they've learned their lesson.

The chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2024, citing a combination of rising food costs, inflation, and what executives openly acknowledged was a costly miscalculation: making Endless Shrimp a permanent, everyday menu item in 2023. The move, which had previously been offered only as a limited-time promotion, led to massive losses as customers flocked in for the all-you-can-eat deal while shrimp prices soared. Red Lobster reported losing approximately $11 million on the promotion in a single quarter.

Now, under new ownership and restructured finances following its emergence from bankruptcy, Red Lobster is reintroducing Endless Shrimp — but with a critical difference: it will return strictly as a limited-time offer, not a permanent fixture.

"We heard our guests loud and clear — Endless Shrimp is something they love and look forward to," a company spokesperson said. "But we also know that running a sustainable business means being smart about how and when we offer it."

The chain has also made broader operational changes as part of its post-bankruptcy strategy, including closing underperforming locations, renegotiating supplier contracts, and streamlining its menu to reduce food waste and improve margins.

For loyal Red Lobster fans, the return of Endless Shrimp is welcome news. For industry analysts, it's a closely watched test of whether a beloved brand can learn from a very public — and very expensive — mistake.

Endless Shrimp is expected to be available for a limited time at participating Red Lobster locations. Check your local restaurant for availability and pricing.
