Update: Cabin Creek Fire Burning Near Alturas Lake
The Cabin Creek Fire, which ignited this past Sunday approximately 20 miles south of Stanley, Idaho, remains a focal point for regional fire crews. Initial response efforts were led by the Smiley Creek Rural Fire Department before the U.S. Forest Service’s Sawtooth National Forest took command of the scene.
As of Sunday evening, the fire was estimated at five acres. In response to the growing threat, the U.S. Forest Service has deployed a comprehensive array of resources, including air tankers, helicopters, and ground-based fire engines, to assist in suppression efforts. According to reports from Monday, the fire displayed minimal growth throughout the night. Ground crews are currently working to secure the fire perimeter and address any potential spot fires, while aerial units are actively dropping water buckets to reduce heat levels, allowing ground teams to establish more effective fire lines.
