Historical Oscar wins and The Cultures that got the spotlight
We're all familiar with the oscars. Whether we care about the film industry or not the oscars is one of the many televised events that has eyes on it at all times. This year's oscars was an exciting year all the oscar buzz was around one of my favorite movies of last year Sinners and the movie itself had become a jumping point to talk about how some cultures share similarties.
Sinners had two historical wins as Michael B Jordan took home his first oscar for playing the two main yet secondary characters smoke and stack, while their Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw also took home an oscar. What makes both of these wins historical? Michael B Jordan's oscar for best leading role barely has any black americans take that oscar back home with them and Autumn's win is historical because she is the first woman to win in the best cinematography category.

Amy madigan also had a moment in the spotlight taking home an oscar for her role as Aunt Gladys in weapons.

This years Oscars were seemingly dripping in culture as the voices behind KPOP Demon Hunters main group HUNTR/X performed their song "Golden" with the kpop light sticks to match and Miles Canton who played the main character "Sammie" was performing "I lied to you" alongside Ralphael Saddiq and the people who co-wrote the song and as the crowd was vibing. The recreation of the scene had taken place on stage with ballet dancers, other styles of hip hop dancing and different cultural dances took center stage.
It seems that this years Oscars can also be a jump off point to celebrate the positives in not only the film industry, but also how that industry can rightfully portray culture.
