BREAKING - The Department Of Labor Makes A Big Announcement On Pharmacy Benefit Manager Fee Disclosure
- The U.S. Department of Labor has finalized a new rule aimed at increasing transparency in the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) industry. The rule requires PBMs and certain affiliated brokers and consultants serving large, self-insured employer health plans to disclose detailed information about their fees, rebates, and other compensation. The move aims to help employers hold these prescription drug middlemen accountable, better evaluate healthcare costs, and negotiate more favorable deals for workers and their families.
The Department of Labor just made a big announcement, one they believe will improve the lives of the American working class and the Healthcare industry.
The DOL officially issued a final rule on targeting Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PMBs), which was introduced early this year. You can read more on the rule here.
Secretary of Labor, Keith Sonderling and Administrator of the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Mehmet Oz spoke to a huge crowd at the DOL building and enthusiastically announced the news on the final rule.
Sonderling took the stage and thanked both Oz and Director of White House Domestic Policy, Vince Haley for attending the event and for "everything they are trying to do with the President's agenda with trying to lower healthcare costs and with trying to help American workers."
"Since day one of the administration, President Trump has taken bold action to break down healthcare costs by expanding access to affordable medicine, maximizing competition in healthcare markets, and increasing price transparency throughout the entire healthcare system," Sonderling told the crowd.
"The Trump administration is ensuring that no one in the healthcare industry can escape the competition that comes from complete price transparency."
Sonderling then highlighted that this final rule was one of President Trump's main goals with the DOL, which is to "create a rule requiring Pharmacy Benefit Managers to disclose how much money they make managing prescription drug benefits for the employers and their workers."
The rule will also "allow employers to negotiate better deals and lower drug prices for the over seventy-two million Americans on self-insured group healthcare plans."
Sonderling then told everyone that this rule "for the first time, requires PBMs to disclose all fees and compensation they receive to the employers who hire them," and thanks to President Trump the DOL is "making the most significant federal reforms for PBMs in decades."
Sonderling assured the crowd that this rule will bring down Healthcare costs nationwide.
Oz would then take the stage and address the crowd. He called the announcement "seminal, important, and impactful."
"Americans deserve affordable Healthcare, and the best way to make things affordable, we believe, is to make things transparent," Oz declared.
"Whenever there's a dark corner, someone's making money. When you save twenty-two billion dollars in the Healthcare system, someone is losing twenty-two billion dollars who is making money off that."
Oz also declared that America should have a "truly competitive capitalist system," a stark contrast from the Democratic Party, which has experienced a sharp rise in socialism, with DSA victories across the country.
Oz also enthusiastically announced that his office has joined forces with Vice President, JD Vance's "Anti-Fraud Task Force"to "achieve outcomes never before imaginable."
"We've taken about fifty billion dollars of costs out of the healthcare just by never letting the money leave the system. So working together with colleagues, even if they're just across the street, colleagues you've probably never worked with before, makes a big deal," Oz told the crowd.
"Today the Department of Labor is making prices and processes clear at every part of the chain that links the different parts of the ecosystem."
With this new initiative taking almost a year to have a final ruling, President Trump, Keith Sonderling, and the Department of Labor will likely take a victory lap after completing one of their main goals of this administration.
"There has never been a better time to be a worker than under President Trump," Sonderling declared.
