CREATE Art Attacks – A Breakthru in Music and Art
Each year in rural and urban communities, artists draw, paint, and build artistic works. This happens in our little towns and big valleys somewhere between Memorial Day and Labor Day. What I find most interesting is that music and art of a region go hand in hand, as do theater and recording, broadcasting, and podcasting. The integration of music and art has been well documented — especially by recording artists who design their album covers — and through collaborations between recording companies and galleries. At the Second Street Art Gallery in Westcliffe, Colorado, the opening of monthly art shows features regional musicians performing. Culinary pop-ups and guest chefs often join in to create a quintessential experience. Original, traditional, and public domain music is being recorded at The Old Westcliffe Schoolhouse, alongside a Bluegrass Festival hosted by community radio station KLZR.
The Great Sound Century Recording Project
From the plains and prairies of Colorado to the Sangre de Cristos, Spanish Peaks, and up through Poncha Pass to the San Luis Valley, people are subscribing to a CREATE Daily lifestyle. The Emergent Campus Movement is calling people of ALL ages and Colorado communities to join. Through the Colorado Chapter of the Leadon Family Foundation and a coalition of studios, colleges, and business incubators, students serve their community through startup and innovation — spanning recreational, educational, arts and media, travel and transportation, and entrepreneurship. Integration is the key. At The Old Westcliffe Schoolhouse, The Jones Theater, All Aboard Westcliffe, and the Custer County Library, the campus is Launching Well, Learning Well, and Landing Well. An all-generation campus — starting at high school age through adults and older adults — will offer Associates, Undergraduate, and Graduate degrees in the Quintessential Arts, with the primary purpose of leaving an orchard of community fruit that will meet the challenges of the Main Street Economy, Recreational and Health Ecology, Continuing Education through Think and Action Groups, The Media Arts Innovation Network, the Endeavor Answer Team (EAT-Street!) in Travel and Transportation, and Mentor Hill for Entrepreneurs.
