Traffic Violation and Drug Charges or Manslaughter: Which Should It Really Be?

  • The two men were arrested with $22,874 and 2,145 grams of fentanyl, Sheriff Deputy Chips Simmons announced yesterday afternoon, September 3rd, 2026.

Escambia County is the western most county along with the oldest in the state of Florida when it was acquired in 1818. It’s said Escambia is derived from the Creek and Choctaw natives name of “shambia” which means “clear water”, “cane-brake”, or “reed-brake”. The county has been growing steadily since the 1940s and ‘50s by doubling and now holding roughly a population of 333,834 people. But, even this county can’t hide away from the fight against fentanyl.

Fentanyl can be used legally in the USA for severe pain such as cancer or anesthesia but it is used on the streets as a cutting agent too. The USA states its a synthetic opioid with no natural ingredients and is compared to morphine. However, fentanyl can be lethal at only 2 milligrams which can cause the brain to misfire in the parts that control a person’s breathing.

That is where Ramon Becerra Urbie at 24-years-old and Adrian Medina-Ortiz, 25-year-old, come in. They were arrested September 3rd, 2026 by Escambia County Sheriff Deputy Chip Simmons for traffic violations and drug charges. The two men were arrested with $22,874 and 2,145 grams of fentanyl, Sheriff Deputy Chips Simmons announced yesterday afternoon, September 3rd, 2026.

Which raises the scary statistics from the stash of fentanyl and cash from Ramon Becerra Urbie and Adrian Medina-Ortiz of which the fentanyl could have killed roughly 76% of the majority population that would take it. Escambia County's population of 333,834 people, could have killed over half of its population by 253,714 deaths, leaving about one third left. Add to the fact of the money, $22,874, found and there becomes a possibility that Ramon Becerra Urbie and Adrian Medina-Ortiz were selling, distributing, fentanyl and that’s what they had earned. Within a county with a median of 4.95% for unemployment rates compare to the USA’s of only 4.1% which is 20% increase from the USA’s unemployment. Leaving many to ponder and question, did this have to do with unemployment or greed. Do you believe this should only be a traffic and drug violation or should it be changed to manslaughter?
