Blackout Hits Abuja, Nasarawa as AEDC Explains Power Outage
Residents of Abuja and neighboring Nasarawa State experienced a widespread power outage, leaving homes, businesses, and public institutions without electricity for several hours.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the disruption and attributed the blackout to a technical fault affecting power supply within its franchise area. According to the company, the outage was caused by a system disturbance that impacted electricity distribution across several districts in the Federal Capital Territory and parts of Nasarawa State.

In a statement issued to customers, AEDC assured residents that its technical team was working closely with relevant stakeholders to identify the source of the problem and restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.
The company apologized for the inconvenience caused by the outage and appealed for patience from affected customers while repair and restoration efforts continued.
The blackout disrupted commercial activities in several areas, forcing many businesses to rely on alternative power sources such as generators. Residents also expressed concerns over the recurring nature of power interruptions and called for more reliable electricity infrastructure.
Energy experts note that Nigeria's power sector continues to face challenges, including grid instability, transmission constraints, and aging infrastructure, which contribute to periodic outages across different parts of the country.
Meanwhile, AEDC has urged customers to report any local faults or electrical hazards observed during the restoration process and to follow safety guidelines when power is eventually restored.
As efforts continue to stabilize the electricity network, residents of Abuja and Nasarawa remain hopeful that normal power supply will be fully restored without further delays.
