Phillies Hold Off Rangers’ Ninth-Inning Rally to Win 5–3 in Opening Day Thriller
The Philadelphia Phillies emerged 5–3 victors on Opening Day against the Texas Rangers. The Phillies looked in control for most of the game, but let up three runs in a ninth-inning rally by the Rangers

Schwarber’s First-Inning Statement Followed by Bohm's 5th-Inning Blast
Schwarber hit a two-run homer. That was his first home run of the season to put the Phillies up 2-0 in the 1st inning.
Bohm brought the boom as Philadelphia extended their lead to 5-0 in the 5th inning. The Phillies had three innings of scoreless ball before that point.
Sanchez Stifles Rangers in Opener
The Rangers had a very tough day early in their first real game of the season in Philly. Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi started out with a tough 1st inning, but the Rangers could not help him out.
Texas were dominated by Phillies star pitcher Christopher Sanchez, who was done after his 6th shutout inning. He struck out 10 and walked none.
Burger’s Heroics Not Enough for Rangers
Jake Burger hit a two-run homer in the ninth. That was his third hit of the game. Corey Seager was 2/4 with one run. Danny Jansen had one RBI.
The Rangers' comeback came up just short after being held scoreless through the first eight. Texas made things interesting by showing some fight late in the game.
