Texas Tech improved to 7-0-4 overall and 3-0-1 in Big 12 play. Arizona State fell to 7-3-2 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.

Freshman makes her mark

Texas Tech controlled much of the opening half, holding 80 percent possession and producing 14 shots before halftime.

The breakthrough came in the 41st minute.

Alana Harry's shot was stopped by Arizona State goalkeeper Kennedy Zorn, but the rebound fell to Alvarez. The freshman midfielder collected the ball and fired a left-footed shot through the Sun Devils' defense for the first goal of her collegiate career.

The goal sent Texas Tech into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

For Alvarez, it was her first collegiate goal in her first season with the Red Raiders. She played all 90 minutes Friday night.

Arizona State pushes back

The Sun Devils created more pressure after halftime, forcing Todd to make several important saves.

Todd made four saves overall, including diving stops in the 58th and 68th minutes that kept Arizona State from finding an equalizer.

The shutout was Todd's sixth of the season and the sixth of her career. The total moved her into a tie for 10th place on Texas Tech's career shutout list.

Giametta adds insurance

Texas Tech continued to look for a second goal and found it late in the match.

In the 77th minute, Taylor Zdrojewski was fouled inside the Arizona State penalty area after receiving a service from Kylie Bahr.

Giametta stepped to the penalty spot one minute later and converted the opportunity, giving Texas Tech a 2-0 lead.

It was Giametta's third goal of the season.

Zdrojewski finished with a team-high six shots and played all 90 minutes. It was her first complete 90-minute appearance since Oct. 17, 2024.

A perfect homestand

The victory completed a 3-0-0 homestand for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech also defeated Cincinnati and Colorado during the three-game stretch.

The Red Raiders finished Friday's match with a 20-5 advantage in shots and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Arizona State managed four shots on goal, all of which were stopped by Todd.

Texas Tech's 16-match unbeaten streak is currently the longest active unbeaten streak among Power Four programs, according to Texas Tech Athletics.

The Red Raiders have also established themselves near the top of the Big 12 standings through the first four conference matches, with a 3-0-1 league record.

Road stretch ahead

Texas Tech now leaves Lubbock for a three-match road stretch.

The Red Raiders travel to Oklahoma State on Oct. 8, followed by matches at TCU on Oct. 11 and BYU on Oct. 16.

For now, the Red Raiders can look back on a homestand in which they won all three matches, outscored their opponents and continued a 16-match unbeaten run.
