Wike Pledges Massive Votes for Tinubu in Rivers, FCT Ahead of 2027 Election
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to mobilise massive support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the pledge while delivering a goodwill message at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, where he praised Tinubu for demonstrating leadership and confronting Nigeria’s longstanding challenges.
The minister said successive administrations had identified major national problems but often hesitated to take decisive action, particularly in addressing insecurity and considering the establishment of state police.
According to Wike, Tinubu’s willingness to confront difficult national issues demonstrates leadership, expressing optimism that the proposed state police initiative would receive the necessary legislative backing.
He also defended his decision to support the President despite belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing that opposition politics should not prevent politicians from acknowledging policies and initiatives they consider beneficial to the country.
“Democracy is not that if the ruling party is doing well, the opposition will say they are not doing well,” Wike said.
Speaking about his responsibilities within the campaign structure, the minister disclosed that he had been assigned to coordinate campaign activities in Rivers State and the FCT.
He pledged to work towards securing substantial votes for Tinubu in both areas, stressing that campaign officials should be judged by their ability to deliver results rather than their positions or titles.
Wike said campaign coordinators must take responsibility for their assigned territories, noting that a presidential victory should not be used to conceal poor performance in individual states or regions.
He cited Lagos State as an example, arguing that political stakeholders should pay attention to the President’s performance in their own areas rather than relying solely on the national outcome.
The FCT minister also challenged residents and political stakeholders in the territory to consider the Tinubu administration’s activities when making their electoral decisions.
Concluding his remarks, Wike expressed confidence that supporters would reconvene after the election to give thanks to God, reiterating his commitment to the assignments entrusted to him.
