Balfour Beatty has mobilized its operations to begin construction on the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach hotel and convention center project in Miami Beach, Florida, according to an April 29 news release. The construction services contract is valued at nearly $385 million.

**Developers and Financing**

MB Mixed Use Investment, a partnership between two prominent South Florida developers—Terra Group and Turnberry—awarded Balfour Beatty the construction contract in January 2023. The project's timeline was initially set to begin that year, but construction was delayed until now. On April 11, the developers announced they had secured $392 million in construction financing for the project.

"With construction financing in place and strong public support behind us, we are eager to bring this landmark hotel to life," said David Martin, CEO of Terra, and Jackie Soffer, chairman and CEO of Turnberry, in the developers' news release.

**Construction Process and Contractors**

Balfour Beatty, one of the nation's leading construction services companies, is serving as the general contractor for the project. The company will oversee all phases of construction for the 17-story hotel, which will serve as the central anchor of the Miami Beach Convention Center District.

The construction process will involve building a 996,130-square-foot mixed-use development that includes 800 guest rooms, extensive convention and meeting space, and ground floor retail areas. At peak construction activity, the project is expected to employ more than 500 skilled workers across various trades and specialties.

While Balfour Beatty leads the construction effort, the project represents a collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including the developers Terra Group and Turnberry, who bring decades of experience in South Florida real estate development. The architectural and design teams responsible for the hotel's vision have not been publicly disclosed in recent announcements, though the project has been designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing Miami Beach Convention Center District.

**Timeline and Impact**

Construction is now underway with completion slated for late 2027. Once finished, the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach will provide a significant boost to the city's hospitality and convention infrastructure, positioning Miami Beach as an even more competitive destination for large-scale events and conferences.
